More on Myths

Myths are ancient stories that are passed on from generation to generation and explain the history of a particular group of people and/or how the world works. Myths are so valuable in the way that they talk about the culture of a certain group. According to F. Landa Jocano in 1969, Filipino mythology has not gotten as much attention in comparison to Greek or Roman mythologies which are offered and taught in different schools throughout the Philippines.

Sugue and Reyes stated in 2022 that Philippine folk myths tell us about our culture and identity as Filipinos; they tell us about our beliefs and values and how we view the world. It’s important that we don’t lose sight of these myths and continue to share and celebrate their existence. In an effort to continue sharing and spreading these folk myths to the new generation, this website has five Western Visayas myths adapted into webcomics.
