Lusong and Alho

Lusong is a wooden mortar that is cut out from a tree trunk and hollowed out. It works together with an alho or pestle, a long wooden stick that is used to grind food material inside the lusong. Lusong and alho processes food such as grains and seeds by pounding the alho or pestle against the lusong or mortar. It is commonly used to separate the husk (or shell) and grain of rice.

Kulon

Kulon is the Visayas version of the Tagalog word “palayok.” It refers to traditional clay pots that were used by Filipinos around 4,200 years ago. Used over burning coals, the clay pots are used to cook traditional Filipino dishes and may also be used as a storage or container. The clay pots are made of molded clay and mud and dried under the sun.

Sawali

Sawali, also referred to and more commonly known as amakan, is a kind of “traditional woven split-bamboo mat” that is typically used as walls, paneling, or wall covering in the Philippines.
